According to the results of the sanitation survey released by the Urban Development Department and the Urban Housing Department of the Central Government, Surat city is ranked second in the entire country. Madhya Pradesh’s Indore is ranked first in the country and Navi Mumbai is ranked third. The survey conducted under Swachh Bharat Mission covered 4242 cities. In which 1.47 crore people were involved. Ahmedabad has been declared a clean megacity in a city with a population of over 40 lakh. So Gandhinagar has been declared the capital of innovation and best practice. Among the cities with a population of 10 to 40 lakh, Rajkot has been selected as the best self-sustaining big city. Union Minister Hardeep Puri has congratulated the residents of Surat for maintaining cleanliness. He also lauded the efforts and efforts made by Surat Municipal Corporation and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani to spread awareness about cleanliness and make people follow it.
