Ahmedabad: Pathological autopsies of COVID patients will start soon at government-run medical colleges in Ahmedabad and Surat, Gujarat’s senior health and family welfare department officials decided on Saturday, in a high-level meeting at the Civil Hospital.
Other government-run medical colleges with post-mortem facilities have also been allowed to prepare for the same. But, this step was met with angst from forensic medicine experts who have been working on the draft proposals on this for the past three years.
An official, on the condition of anonymity, told the Times of India, “In principle, an x-ray machine can be installed anywhere- but we do not do it as it requires certain specifications. We had made representations for proper infrastructure, considering the nature of the virus. We are hopeful that the safety measures will be in place- we have already seen the deaths of several doctors treating the COVID patients.”
