Amid a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in India, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made it clear that there is no plan to impose a countrywide lockdown, emphasising that the Centre will concentrate on creating small containment zones to curb the spread of the deadly virus. It is worth mentioning here that the daily positivity rate in the last 12 days doubled to 16.7 per cent from 8 per cent. On Sunday, India added a record 2,61,500 new coronavirus infections.

The finance minister reached out to the president of Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME), the industry body’s president Animesh Saxena said in a statement.

“I received a call from FM Nirmala Sitaraman today to convey us the preparedness by the government to handle recent surge of Covid cases,” Saxena said.

Further, FM Sitharaman conveyed the preparedness by the government to handle recent surge of coronavirus cases. Saxena went on add that the finance minister mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are in constant touch with all states to monitor the situation and providing all help regarding the availability of oxygen, essential medicines and medical facilities.

Last week, FM Sitharaman had emphasised that the local level isolation of patients or households which have people in quarantines were the methods through which the Covid crisis would be tackled.
