Gold prices on Thursday climbed above Rs 53,000 per 10 gram while silver prices remained volatile. According to reports, gold prices climbed to Rs 53,680 per 10 gram from 53,350 per 10 gram, indicating that gold prices have increased across the country.
However, the silver prices are currently trading lower at Rs 60,000 per kg and continue to remain volatile. It may be noted that gold prices vary across India due to several state taxes and central excise duty.
The price of 22-carat gold in New Delhi currently stands at Rs 49,210 per 10 gram while it is Rs 48,350 in Chennai. In Mumbai, the price of 22-carat gold today is Rs 48,960 per 10 gram. Meanwhile, the price of 24-carat gold in Delhi is Rs 53,680 per 10 gram in New Delhi and Rs 49,960 in Mumbai.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, October gold futures fell over 0.5 per cent to Rs 50,404 per 10 gram, while silver December futures were at Rs 59,919 per kg.
Globally, gold prices steadied in early trade on Thursday on the back of a softer dollar and increased hopes for another stimulus package in the US.
According to news agency Reuters, spot gold was steady at $1,884.67 per ounce by 6:28 am. However, US gold futures were down 0.2 per cent at $1,890.90.
