The association also submitted an application to make the Surat textile industry at par with other countries
The members of Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) and Globale Textile Market on Thursday felicitated the Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat.
They also submitted an application to make Surat textile market, the world’s leading one. The main points included in the memorandum are that the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had discussed in this year’s budget about the seven textile mega park would come up in in the state. The association had also requested the Textiles minister Smriti Irani about the park as more than 50% facilities are already available in Surat.
The association has also requested the Chief Minister Vijay Rupani to make a garment hub in the city. They also said that if government takes required steps towards making the hub then, Surat will be ahead of places like Bangladesh and Vietnam as the required infrastructure is already there in place.
Another point which was included in the memo was that state government should open textile ministry in Surat, so that textile industry can grow. Also women should be given education and taught value addition which could be helpful to the industry.
They have also stated that research labs and skill universities should be set up in Surat; also legal complexities of the GST should be simplified to help the small traders.
“I am surprised to see the textile industry in Surat. Now, wherever I go, I will promote the industry,” said Devvret.
