RAJKOT

A massive earthquake centered near Tapeshwar Mahadev Temple and Dadawadi near the banks of the Machhundri River in Una had forced people out of their homes before a devastating cyclone struck the sea near Una-Diu.

People were shaken by the fear of this double catastrophe before the cyclone threat, the earthquake was felt far and wide. The quake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was recorded in the ISR as well as in the National Center. This is the first earthquake of such magnitude in the whole of Gujarat including Kutch.

The epicenter was reported at a depth of 3500 meters below the ground, which is believed to have caused an earthquake at ground level. However the faultline is already active in Una. Prior to this, on 20-1-2019, 38 km from Una. The epicenter was reported below the epicenter at 4.1 magnitude, however; no tsunami alert was issued.

On the one hand, people need to stay indoors to avoid hurricanes and storms, on the other hand, they need to get out of the house to avoid earthquakes, which has made people’s condition extremely miserable. However, according to earlier findings by ISR experts on such earthquakes, a catastrophic earthquake like Kutch is unlikely in Saurashtra.
