Textile sector in Surat is passing from tough phase these days due to COVID-19 and low demand from rural and urban sectors. Textile traders say they have very little hopes of good business as people are only buying essential products. According to textile trader Rangnath Sharda, textile business is at its lowest with majority of textile shops and businesses not getting enough orders. According to Sharda, there was limited business during Raksha Bandhan and sole hope is on Diwali and marriage season.

Textile traders say that they used to do business worth Rs125-140 crore during this period due to academic sessions, Raksha Bandhan, Onam, Teej and Adhi season. This year less than 20% business has been recorded and there are little hopes that textile business will see a revival. Textile processing units are also facing huge problems as there are limited orders. Outstation traders are also not showing any interest, which is creating problems for the textile traders in Surat.
